For those of you who have a walk-in closet, what do you love about it and what can't you live without?

We are converting our 'bonus room' to a walk-in closet. It will be huge and needs to fit both of our clothes, shoes, etc...

What can you not live without?

What feature(s) do you love or what is wasted space?

I have tons of shoes, how is the best way to store them?

Do you have a rug or a wood floor? Which is better?

All suggestions, comments are welcomed!!!

Re: For those of you who have a walk-in closet, what do you love about it and what can't you live without?

I have two walk in closets... one for the pantry, and one for my clothes (bedroom)

the bedroom one:

-lots of adjustable shelves
-drawers
-poles at different hights to hang up long dresses and pants and then some for shirts and shorts
-for shoes, I just have them on the floor all around the closet, but I have seen closets with small shoe-sized compartments
-hooks for my bathrobe and purses

i'd love to have more room for my purses... and I put the little stuff (toiletries and makeup and things like that) in clear plastic bins so I can just take out a bin and put it back and not make a HUGE mess.

Hope this helps!

Danielle

Love the Walk-In Closet. I have one side, DW has the other side. She has some shoes on the bottom of her side and less-used shoes on top of the closet system we have.

Re: For those of you who have a walk-in closet, what do you love about it and what can't you live without?

You'll have to come visit and see my closet! We have about 1/4 with shelves, where we have folded t-shirts. The other 1/4 (1/2 of that wall side) has 2 rods for clothes, one lower, one higher. The other 1/2 of the closet has one long rod for hanging longer clothes. For shoes at the end of the closet we have a thing in the wall with wire shelves for shoes. There are about 10 shelves on it, each fits about 4 pairs of shoes. It works really well. Also above the clothes rods we have shelves where we put luggage, bags, etc.

Why not let your husband design it? He seems to know what he is doing

Ours has these pull out laundry baskets....LOVE THEM!

I also love the adjustable shelves for shoes and the drawers we have that eliminate the need for another piece of furniture in the bedroom. We also have a double hanging bar which gives us a ton of space.

Ours is carpeted and has 2 light fixtures.

Hope this helps!

I love ours. It has wood floors , but it is in the second bedroom though. I asked my husband to build me shelves for my shoes. I am still waiting!
