Catholic Churches-- Can They Do This??? Repost from BHB

My sister and I are getting married at the same church, and found out their 'Guidelines' that they have... Do you know the flowers that you can have put up at the alter, well my sister is paying $400 for two of them, then planned on having them brought to the reception hall to put infront of the Bride and Groom table. WELL.... The church said,' Once the flowers are in the church, they are a 'Donation' and WILL NOT be removed.....' My sister is already paying a $575 'Donation' and extra for the organist, and now they want the flowers that cost $400!!!! Is this Absurd or what???!!!!!! And next year, I'm getting married there, and they're leaving such a bad taste in my mouth!!

What should we do?? Just take the flowers when we leave???

Unfortunetely...I think they can do whatever they want! So the church insists that you put flowers on the altar???

Re: Catholic Churches-- Can They Do This??? Repost from BHB

I get so fustrated when I hear things like this! I was totally upset when we were told that we needed to give a 'donation' of $620...To me, a donation is something that 'we' should determine, not a 'non-profit' organization!!!

Luckily I do not need to get church floral arrangements bc they already do that, but I would be raising so much he** if I was your sister....When you go to a funeral, you bring floral arrangements in & you take them with you! Why is it any different then for a wedding???

Re: Catholic Churches-- Can They Do This??? Repost from BHB

My church is the same way.. We are paying them an arm and a leg just as a donation between the church and the music people. Then they recommend a gratuity for their altar servers... And I'm having a visiting priest from a different parish come to marry us. So when all is said and done.. I'll probably be paying over 1000!!! For a church!!!!!
I'll be hitching those darn altar pieces to the back of the limo if I have to!

Re: Catholic Churches-- Can They Do This??? Repost from BHB

my church is doing the same thing. anything that comes in the church, stays in the church. we are only paying $400 for the 'donation.' and i think we are going to use Burton's, so the flowers won't be that expensive. its really all very ridiculous, but they can pretty much do what they want.

i get so fustrated when i hear this because something of them same lines happened to me and one of my friends. i know that the church wants a donation. now to me the defenition of a donation is an amount that you want to give. now the chujrch tells you what the amount of a donation they want for a wedding or whatever other event you are planning. over the past 2 years i have noticed that the churches are getting very greedy and money hungry and that is not what the church should be like. it is very disappointing.
