After spaying or neutering did your pet calm down a little?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my little girl and i KNOW she is a Golden who get super hyper and excited but sometimes she can be exhausting and I feel bad not having the energy to play with her as much as she wants at night. We play with her but she still wants to play at 11:30pm!

She is scheduled to be spayed on Monday 2/21. Will she calm down a bit?

Re: After spaying or neutering did your pet calm down a little?

I dont think it calms them down but it prevents them from getting more hyper because their hormones wont start raging. She will calm down, she is still a puppy right?

Bruno did not calm down. He also never humped his bed pillow before the surgery but now he violates his pillow and any stuffed animals he can find ,

Re: After spaying or neutering did your pet calm down a little?

My vet told us that it's not the spaying or neutering that calms them down, but the age that it usually occurs at is when they're growing out of that stage of their life.
My parent's dog is still as hyper as she was when she was a couple of months old. She's a little over a year old now, and was fixed some time ago...
so i think it's all about the dog

Re: After spaying or neutering did your pet calm down a little?

I had heard that it does calm them down slightly but when we got Casey spayed (like 12 years ago) it calmed her down for all of 1 week! Then she went back to being a normal insane dalmatian!

Lucy came to us spayed so I dont know how she was before, but if the way she acts now is calmer I would have hated to see her before!

So I guess my general answer so NO!

Re: After spaying or neutering did your pet calm down a little?

I think that's an old wives tale or something! I don't really notice a difference in Golem now that he's neutered. He's just as hyper as before, no more or less, just the same. The only timehe was calm was when he was still dopey from the medication the vet gave him He's still a baby though, turns 6 months old next week. I think most dogs arent considered adults until 1 1/2 - 2 years old, and that's usually when they mellow out a little bit.

Your Casey is like our Golem too with being in the crate all day - so that whole time, all the puppy energy is building up and then BANG you come home, let them out and it's all PLAY PLAY PLAY mode :) Golem isn't too bad with the hyperness now though. We try to get him as tired as we can by playing with him and going for walks when we're home. Craig is home with him until around 2 every day, so during that time he keeps Golem out of the crate, plays, and walks him before he leaves for work. That way when I get home at 7, Golem is only a little hyper :) I usually feed him, then we'll hang out for a bit before I start playing with him and then we'll go for a walk. After that, he'll usually wind down around 9:30 or so. Craig always plays with him for a little bit when he gets home too, but after that Golem just kinda hangs out the rest of the night. I have the most energy towards the end of the day anyway, so it works out pretty well for us
