Okay teachers, here is a trick I made up for my planning book

i was really getting tired of erasing and rewriting plan overviews whenever something else would come up and i'm one of those anal people who likes my plan book to be normal. so i went out to staples and got those little post it notes that are about the same size as the squares in my book. this way, i write my plans, like pages to refer to or general ideas i need to cover on the post-its and all i have to do is move them when there is a change. i've been doing this for a couple of weeks and other teachers are doing it too b/c it actually keeps us a little sane. anyway, just thought i'd pass it on.

That sounds like a great idea! I might try that out when I start planning full time at my Student Teaching placement (I start ST tomorrow)

Re: Okay teachers, here is a trick I made up for my planning book

I'm so bad with lesson planning.....I usually write the general idea down in the book and then wing it when it comes to the lesson.....

but you have a great idea there....and if i used my book like i am was supposed to....i would certainly steal it from you!

I do something similar when scheduling my kids at the beginning of the year--it is soooo useful considering how many times I have to make changes!!

I have the post it note flags pen, where the mini flags are stored inside the pen. it's awesome for flagging pages in books I want to use. I like your idea!

I do the same thing. I have little 3 by 3 post it notes for when I have to make a change in my plans. I am so crazy about my plan book - it HAS to be neat!

i know it sounds anal, but holy cow, it really helps! there are so many times that lessons run over time, assemblies that i didn't know about, stuff like that. my a/p is doing it now, too!

Re: Okay teachers, here is a trick I made up for my planning book

Ok, this is a really good idea, but am I the only bad, bad teacher who doesn't do lesson plans? We don't need to hand them in, we just do an overview of what we will be covering that MONTH, not even that week! So I have my whole year planned before the school year starts and I do month long units. Granted, I am a music teacher, but almost NO teachers in my school use planners. I teach much more effectively when I'm going with the flow.

Re: Okay teachers, here is a trick I made up for my planning book

no...i need my planner. i didn't get my class until october, so i have only recently started to get a handle on everything. for the first 3 months, i was just above the water. but i also teach kids who are on top of everything and if i'm off, they know it. so i need it. but i'm sure in time, my planner will be just for show, like bringing a bag home for some teachers are. hopefully, i'll be ahead of the game.

Re: Okay teachers, here is a trick I made up for my planning book

Either that, or I'm SOOOOOO anal that I've memorized everything. I've been accused of being anal because I plan out my year ahead of time! But I'm glad you've found a system to help get you ontop of things! It's a good feeling to know what's going on!

Re: Okay teachers, here is a trick I made up for my planning book

I teach in an early childhood center and thats exactly what I do. If I have time, I plan for the following week, and maybe some of the next. If my supervisor comes in and asks us to do an activity, I just write it on the post-its and stick them in the book. Its really a great idea. It helps a lot. My plan book used to be covered in white-out..LOL
