Rehersal Dinner Question....

OK--this is for everyone who knows LI--as some of you know, we're from Rockland County and have no clue what's good in LI--THANK GOD for this site and you WONDERFUL ladies!!!

Need to find a good place for our 'rehearsal dinner'--not really rehearsing, but need to have dinner for everybody.

We'll have about 40 people, so I'd like to keep the cost to around $30-$35/pp with wine, beer, and soda (I'm sure open-bar would be much more expensive).

We're staying at the Hilton Garden Inn near MacArthur Airport--but we can travel a distance, if necessary (20-25 minutes tops).

I've seen some good things about 'Gatsby' (I think that's the name)--but have no idea what pricing or atmosphere is there. Any comments on this place?

I think we really want a laid-back and casual place (any good steakhouse or seafood places that aren't 'stuffy') But, not Outback or Olive Garden (nothing against either--I like them both, just not for our RD )

TIA ladies!! Looking forward to your imput.

Re: Rehersal Dinner Question....

I would recomment Irish Times Pub, in Holbrook. They have great food, and a private room, which can accomodate up to 70 people or so. There is a bar area, but it's not like a club-bar. It's very casual, laid back and definitely close to MacArthur Airport. (about 8-10 minutes)

We booked it for our RD and we have our company xmas party there every year. Speak to Larkin. He's a super nice guy!

Re: Rehersal Dinner Question....

Crazy Dog is in the area in Sayville. I had my bridal shower there and the food is great. I am not sure of exact places but that may be good for you.

Re: Rehersal Dinner Question....

We had ours at the Snapper Inn (Oakdale - its on the water) - prices are in your price range and the food is amazing. Here the link to the catering dinner menu (there are 3 choices for meals - at the bottom is the prices).

You can also try the Irish Coffee Pub (East Islip) - not sure on the prices - but food is unbelievable.

You have the Sonoma Grill (Holbrook) - Food is really good - atmosphere reminds me of an Applebees or something like that - from what I hear the prices are reasonable.

Otherwise I am drawing a blank - if I think of more I will post again.
p.s. - we stayed that the Hilton Garden as well - everything was great - all of our guests were so happy!

Re: Rehersal Dinner Question....

gatsby is an interesting place. it's sort of an old house/mansion converted into a restaurant. not sure how the food is.

in that area, tellers is a great steakhouse. peter's in babylon is great, and maybe less pricey. cafe nuvolari is also a cute little place for italian. then there's always irish coffee pub, which has excellent food and pretty separate rooms...

We are having ours at Burke and Shapiro in Smithtown about 15 minutes from Macarthur Airport. It is a nice steakhouse.
