Any teachers, people needing part-time jobs....

I submitted my name to Kaplan today and they called an hour later! The pay to teach SAT prep classes start at $20 an hour, $7 an hour for out-of-class preparation. I would make either $25 or 26 an hour since I have a Master's. Sounds like much higher than the Huntington Learning-type centers. Not a bad part-time job at all (I am not a teacher and you don't have to be--I think they just look at SAT scores) but I have to present a 5 min. audition on Monday on how to do something (non-academic, something like how to choose wine, how to plan a vacation...). Any ideas on good presentation topics?

Re: Any teachers, people needing part-time jobs....

If you call local high schools, there are tons of parents trying to get tutors for the SATs....especially with the new English section. Private one on one tutor pays generally $75 an hour for the SAT. I would look into this because you are only tutoring one rather than a whole group and making more money. I will be doing this.

What are the hours for something like this

They said 4-10 hours a week, whatever I want. I'm not sure what the minimum SAT score is--I am not sure if I would be teaching verbal and math, or just one...

Re: Any teachers, people needing part-time jobs....

I'd love to know the criteria to get into this-- sounds like a good second job to me, especially being that they don't seem to require many hours!

Re: Any teachers, people needing part-time jobs....

do you have to show proof of SAT scores? Because I could never find them so many years later! or is there some way to get a copy still, even though it was so long ago?

I'm not sure of what SAT score they really require--she said with 2 years of college the starting salary is $20 an hour. I have a master's so I am up to $25 or 26. She said they called everyone with SATs above 1300 first and if they need more they will go lower. I took my SATs in '95 so if they do require proof I will just call ETS for another copy.

Re: Any teachers, people needing part-time jobs....

I asked for anyone who wanted to know the qualifications--
'We require you to have taken, within the last five years, the test you wish to
teach, and to have scored above the 90th percentile, preferably higher.'
Mine was 12 years ago, so we'll see if they make me retake the SATs! Anyone who was interested, FM me and I will send you the recruiter's number.
