Is a crock pot worth it? I have some questions
I'm contemplating buying one.Is it worth it or did u use it a few times & it now sits in the closet?
Is Rival a good one to get? There seems to be a lot to choose from. What options must you have?
What else besides soups & such can you cook in it?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm looking for everyone's opinions.

Re: Is a crock pot worth it? I have some questions
I think they are worth it. They aren't that much money and dinner is ready when you get home. I think mine was $40. Its a rival w/ 2 heat settings. Check out Kohl's- they have them on sale a lot. Also try LNT & BBB.Try to get one with a few different heat settings and a wide bottom so more of the ingredients are touching the bottom. Just make sure is a known name - don't wan to leave an appliance on all day if you're not sure about it.

Leaving it on all day makes me a bit nervous.

Re: Is a crock pot worth it? I have some questions
I never leave mine on when there is no one in the house. And I have the real deal .. the Rival CrockPot .. all others by any other brand are called slow cookers .. CrockPot is exclusively done by Rival. It's like .. you can make a photo copy from a Xerox machine .. but you can't make Xerox copies from all photo copy machines.
For me .. it has nothing to do about whether my slow cooker is from a 'known' company .. but rather .. just the uneasiness of having an appliance going when no one is around.
ANYWAY .. even though mine was a gift .. had I purchased it .. I would say it is absolutely worth the money .. the model I have was about $29 something like 8 years ago!
I love making soups .. stews .. pot roasts .. etc .. I've even tried desserts .. who'd a thought .. making desserts in the slow cooker .. but .. I posted the 'Brownie Bottoms' recipe a while back .. and it was yummy .. especially if you just LOVE chocolate!
This is the one I have:

Re: Is a crock pot worth it? I have some questions
I love my crock pot - I actually just used it yesterday - I made tangy chicken - it was awesome -I do leave mine on all day - I love knowing that my dinner will be ready and waiting when I get home!
But I've made all different things in there, pot roasts, meatloaf, chili, soups of course, chicken dishes the list goes on and on.
I have the Rival as well.

I feel the bigger is better because if you want to make dinner for 2 you can make it in a big one. If you want to make dinner for 5 and only have a small one, its not going to work.

Re: Is a crock pot worth it? I have some questions
Yup tonight. I made chicken cacciatorre. It was so yummy. The machine is so simple to use, and it doesnt make any sound at all. We have so much food left over for tomorrow nights dinner. Now I have to find a good pork chop recipe.
