PSA: The 6 letter 'F' word

Webster would say it is a bundle a sticks. Why
is a bundle of sticks equated with a gay man?


In the inquisition of Europe, when witches were
being burned, among those sought out for
burning were gay people. They were required to
gather the very 'bundles of sticks' (the real
meaning of a faggot) with which they would be
burnt. When the faggots (sticks) were running
out, gay men were thrown on the fire to keep it
going for the witches. Faggot came to mean gay
man to force them into the closet for fear of
death. Scary, huh? Think about what you are
saying -- who you are offending when say this
word, even if in jest to a friend.



think about it the next time you use the word 'fag' or 'flamer'....

fag is worse, but it alsodepends on how you use it.... i tend to use alot of 'offensive' words.. of course not in public, and not to offend anyone, ie. i would never call a gay guy a fag or anything

also when people say 'gay' instead of 'stupid'... it depends... sometimes gay ppl use the words themselves!

It makes me so sick. Donna, I was telling Jonn about ym experience this weekend. I got into a big fight with my future in laws because I politely told them I didn't find their use of those words amusing....it turned into WW3, and someone here used the word 'flamer', and I think most people really don't know the origin of that word and why I get to sick to my stomach hearing it. it's bad enough because it's a hateful word like any other comment, such as racial ones, but its history is what really makes it sickening.

Like I said in one of ym first OT posts, I slapped my ex in the face in front of 100 people for using that word, so you know how I feel about it

I don't think people should ever use 'gay' 'Straight' or anything as an insut or in a negative context....

if you say 'oh I hate laguna beach, that show is so gay' and you don't mean you hate it because it's happy, you're equating gay with something negative, and that's hateful, wheter you realize it or not.

Most people don't, that's why there's this PSA. I hope that if people know what it means, they'll stop saying it!

I wasnt faulting you for what you said in your other post...it just reminded me of my experience this weekend and prompted me to post this.

i knew thats what it was about.... i only went ahead and used it since its off-topic.. BUT think of a new word for me... i think you know how i meant it.. think of one (cuz i cant) and ill edit it.

personally, i DO alot of words politically incorrect.... but i dont 'mean' them the way some people do... like i said, in my home.

ETA: If someone says the word 'fag' around me and I'm trying to not go nuts on them I just say 'no thanks, I don't smoke'

thank you for the history - really intense. I think that word is revolting. It makes me physically cringe when i hear it.
