American Airlines gives you "points" with their mastercard (or visa, i'm not sure which one it is). I don't know if you can use them through a travel agent though- we are booking our flights to Italy with frequent flyer miles ourselves. Actually, we aren't using a travel agent for anything- we did a ton of research over the summer.

Out of curiousity, do you have to charge a lot to get the miles? Or is it reasonable amount of spending to get the perks.

For example we were looking into the Marroiott credit card. But the Marriott we are looking to stay at is 60,000 points per night. We might have that when we're 80!!!

Re: Please share which credit card gives air miles...

well, it's $1 per point. if you go on the American Airlines website they will tell you how many points you need in order to purchase a roundtrip ticket to Hawaii for coach/business and first class. (i'm honestly not sure b/c we're going to Italy which is more points).

We also have the Marriott card, which we are using for our 1st 4 nights in Rome.

The thing is that my fiance travels an insane amount for work. So, for the last year he has been accruing frequent flyer miles on American, and he puts it on his American credit card- so we get double points. Same for Marriott- he stays at Marriotts and puts it on his credit card so he gets double points.

We have also been charging things that we know we can afford to pay off right away (so no finance charge) but getting the points for it this way.

If you can't get enough points to buy a ticket on American, however, you may be able to buy a coach ticket and save up enough points for a free upgrade to business or first (it's a lot less points to upgrade then to buy a ticket).

Anyway, I know this is long and i may not help you at all...but I hope it does.

Thank you so much for the info. I read about all of these girls using points, and I know I should have started when we got engaged, but I was too busy thinking about vendors and dresses!!!

Mbna has a card you can get miles for any airline you choose. Here is there website- www.mbna.com. Captial one has one too that is really easy to use. You find the flight and just call them with your mile total and its booked. www.captialone.com

Bank One Visa PLatinum gives airline miles for every dollar you spend...on a variety of airlines which is nice.

My sister and her husband went to Aruba on her airline miles...

FH and I are now using it for everything.

Re: Please share which credit card gives air miles...

I use AMEX for everything. If I could put my mortgage payment on it I would. Mostly I fly Delta, Continental and American with the miles. They also have a Delta sky miles card that gives you a point and a half for every dollar you spend. The regular AMEX gives you double points for gas stations, drug stores and supermarkets.

You have to call directly to them to use the miles, can't do it with a travel agent. The best is using the miles for first class upgrades.

Re: Please share which credit card gives air miles...

i have the orbitz card- allows you to but tickets from any airline - no fee - it is from juniper - you get double points when you buy stuff from orbitz

my parents have the american airlines card - it is really good for upgrading - not the best for getting tickets- they only use a selct few seats to get from miles - so you need to book early or be flexible - that is a mile for every dolloar - this has a fee though

my parents also have a chase card - that allows you to use it for any airline - woks really well - that is there favorite- it has a fee though
