My First Vent

They should make t-shirts with that slogan or something .

Anyway, I just need to vent. FH just emailed me that his mother just has to invite 2 more people - 'very close family friends.' Um, if they're so close, why did she not even consider them until 8 months after we did the lists?? This is getting out of control!! I wanted 120 people max. I knew I was being unreasonable so I said fine, 150.

My list (you may want to sit for this) is now a whopping 264. The best part is that 98 are for me (tremendous Irish family - one of five and my mom is one of 9, plus I have 32 first cousins) and 157 are for FH. He's an only child, his dad's one of 2, his mom one of 3 with a total of 7 cousins between the two.

Explain this to me PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't help you.
My in-laws made us invite people to the wedding that we weren't considering...NOw they're giving us a hard time about the rehearsal dinner they're supposed to be hosting for us.

Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and say no. I don't mean this rudely, because I'm am too, but is his family Italian? They have their own way of doing things and they always have long lists of people who just 'have' to be invited.

I have the opposite problem. MY FMIL is remarried to a man who has suffered from Altizmers for a number of years. Because of that she has few friends. Both of our families are small but my parents and myself have a great number of close friends. Everytime I talk to her she keeps stressing how I need to keep the wedding small. She would like to see no more than 100 but their list with FH friends is only 50 people so of course she would say that!

I'm Italian AND Jewish and FH is Italian! lol!
But you're right, the two are very similar and I know A LOT of Jewsih families that pul the 'well they have to be invited' stuff. Mind you, it's probably random people they work with, someone's lawyer, golf buddies, etc... With FMIL it's always, well I was invited to their kids (fill in the blank) and 'if I invite XXX and not XXX then thgey will be insulted' blah, blah blah.
