Girls who are unhappy with their dress

Went for my first fitting and hate my dress. I don't know what to do with the wedding being in 5 weeks. What did you girls do? The designer that I bought my dress from is having a trunk show this weekend where I bought my dress. Should I take a look at other dresses?

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

Well if you are thinking about getting another dress, then i wouldn't let them alter your present dress just yet. They may be nice and let you exchange them, so long as the first dress is in its original condition. If you are really unhappy, I would at least go to the trunk sale, but you may find that you like your dress more than you think you do.

Yes, look at other dresses, quickly. Remember you can purchase a dress right off the rack. They will alter and clean it for you. Get moving. It is way to late in the game, to put yourself under this unwanted stress.

Good Luck!!!!

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

Can you purchase any dress right off the rack, or does there have to be a sample sale going on?

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

i'd look at off the rack, sample sales, Ebay, or other wedding dress websites like http://preownedweddingdresses.com/

and maybe your dress isn't that bad...could be stress making you too critical since you're so close to the wedding day.

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

Patti,

What's the matter with the dress? What don't you like? Did you bring someone with you to try it on?

Sorry to hear it!

Jill

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

I think before you start trying on other gowns and possibly confuse yourself and stress yourself more than necessary (though I'm not totally against it) you should consider what you can do to your gown. I made tons of alterations to my gown in order to get it just right. All the 'little' things that were bothering me about it I got changed and it made a world of difference everytime I went back to try it on. I did the following:

-- Changed the neckline from a scoop to a 'contessa' neckline.

-- got a bigger slip

-- bustled up part of the train permanently to give the back more interest (I thought it was so plain and hated that about the train)

-- added hip-fanning

-- had the sleeves taken in -- they were way too loose on me and it made me look fatter

You can also try a different, more decorative veil or maybe some added beading. Also, go back and try your gown on with your hair trial, your jewelry, etc Try to get a better idea of the 'whole package' for that day. And try to remember what you loved about the dress in the first place.

You can do all that first if you want (discuss your alteration options with your seamstress) or try on other gowns first. I found that when I was having doubts about my gown about 3 months before the wedding, I tried on other gowns and I realized why I fell in love with mine to begin with.

Any other questions feel free to FM me... I went through quite alot of dress stress.
Good luck!!!

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

w/ only 5 weeks until the wedding that's not a lot of time to find, buy and alter a whole new dress. -
Can you change the dress you have ?? - Add/take away sleeves? Bigger bustle, bigger slip maybe ?? or what about your hair/makeup/veil/headpiece ??

what don't you like about it ??

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

my dress isnt in yet but when i ordered my dress i hadn't picked out my wedding colors.. I decided on silver and pink.. My dress could have been ordered with silver and light pink beading but by that time it was too late!.. I love my dress but really wish i could have had the pink accent to complement my wedding party...

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

I don't like the front of the dress. It gives me no shape. I think I look bigger in the dress than I really am. They also want to sew the bra to the dress which I don't want. Are they afraid it will fall down. It also didn't feel snug on me, like it could fall down. I want that feeling wear it's really tight and snug on and that I think you can see I have curves and boobs. You know. Am I making sense?

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

Here is the dress again, unaltered so it is too big on me. It makes me look wider than I am, and doesn't show that I have curves. What can really be done to the front?

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

Did they alter it yet? It will probably be more flattering after it is altered to your size.

I think it looks beautiful!

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

it's a beautiful dress. -
What if you get a corset ?? that alone will give you a more defined shape and they'll alter the gown to fit to your shape.
Don't forget, they haven't done anything yet !! Once they take it in and make it ift the way you want it to, it will look exactly the way you want !!

Re: Girls who are unhappy with their dress

I agree..it has to be fitted to you. I had the same doubts and once it was fitted with the right undergarments it will look perfect. It really is a beautiful dress and you may be getting too critical of yourself. A good seamstress can do wonders. to give it the shape you are looking for.
