2 questions for those getting married in a Catholic Church

Should I send an invitation to the priest? I didn't and my friend told me I should.

Also, he requires $600 to have the wedding at the church - do you give a donation on top of that or is that the donation?

Thanks!

I didn't send an invitation.

the fee my church is charging me is considered the 'recommended' donation.

Re: 2 questions for those getting married in a Catholic Church

I am not inviting the priest because we didnt know him before we stepped foot in that church and have no relationship with him.

I think $600 is sufficient - we are giving $550 for our 20 minute ceremony and no more than that!

By the way, this is just what we are doing, I could be wrong. Sorry I didnt help that much!

I'm not inviting the priest. - WHY ??

As for the 'donation' that $600 requirment IS the donation !! - they didn't use to TELL you what the PRICE was !! -

Sorry to sound so jaded. - I'm just so annoyed w/ the whole Church thing. - You want to TELL me how much is REQUIRED. - which to me is a price, b/c if I don't PAY you that amount of $$, you won't marry me !! So they want to treat it as a business, but then still get the same respect and 'perks' as a 'priest' - I don't think so.......

We are not inviting the priest. When we went to the first meeting with him, he didn't say it was a 'donation', he called it a fee. Which I think is fair. The fee includes the singer and organist as well as the priest.

We MAY tip the singer and organist.

I don't remember the terminology he used, but I do specifically remember him saying it covers the alter boys, organist, singer and clean up. That's why I wasn't sure if I should give more. UGH I wish money would just falling from the sky. Don't we all!

I sent an invitation to him. The donation is the $600. I wouldn't give more, ours was less than that and we're not giving more.

Re: 2 questions for those getting married in a Catholic Church

We invited the Monsignor - he is FH's cousin.

The fee covers use of the church - the organist, vocalist, etc...a gift/donation is 'suggested' on top of that.

Re: 2 questions for those getting married in a Catholic Church

We are only inviting the priest because he knows my mom's uncle. And the fee you are paying IS the donation... you dont need to give extra.
