Did you guys try to lose weight before you look for THE dress

I figured that I wanted to get to a good weight before I even go looking for dresses - I have over a year before the date, so I figured a month or 2 should n't be a big deal... is that a good idea or not?

I think it's a good idea and I wish I would have done that. I INTENDED to lose weight before going dress shopping but I didn't (partially because I moved up my wedding from 2005 to 2004) and it made dress shopping alot harder.

I was not happy with what I saw in the mirror, not happy with my weight at all, and therefore I didn't like the way I looked in MOST wedding dresses. Now, I've lost about 20 lbs since ordering my gown and I even went once more and tried gowns that were the complete opposite of my dress and they looked so different on me! I liked them!! Soooo... I MIGHT have made a different decision on my dress if I had been 20lbs lighter when I started shopping.

I didn't lose weight before dress shopping, but I have lost 10 pounds since. The dress fit me well then, but I know it's going to look that much better now. I go for my first fitting on Thursday. I'm so excited, I haven't tried on my gown since January!

i didn't lose weight, and i stayed about the same weight, and my dress fits almost perfectly! it shouldn't need too many alterations.

I didnt lose weight, and my dress fit perfectly. I wanted to lose 10-20lbs but with the stress of the wedding and house buying I wasnt adding to that stress.

I am in the same boat. I got engaged in March and decided that I wanted to lose weight before I even looked for a dress. Well I started with a personal trainer in the end of April and I have lost close to 40 lbs since then. I still would like to lose alittle more but I started my dress shopping last week and I loved the way that I looked in the dresses that I tried on. You really only need like 7 months for the dress so do whatever makes you more comfortable.

I didn't lose weight, kind of fell over my dress early... wasn't intending that, but one thing I love about my dress is that I could gain 15 lbs - it'll still make me look tiny! I won't go clothes shopping and have 3 banana republic Gift Certificates from my B-day last septmeber but won't shop for that stuff until I lose weight, but the dress is the only thing I like on my body.

I didn't, but my dress was a little snug when I first tried it on, so now that I'm losing weight, even if it has to be taken in, it won't be that much. I couldn't pass up this dress!

I didn't but plan to now. I am at the one year mark so I can do it in a healthy way!

That was actually a big issue for me. I waited like six months trying to lose weight. I was afraid that if none of the dresses looked good on me that I would get discouraged. In the end I am only a few pounds lighter than I was before and I had to go. Everything worked out and I was able to find the dress of my dreams.
