Help! I need suggestions for a first dance song

Hi! I know this topic is going around these boards a lot, but I can't find any ones with recent posts, so I figured I would just ask.

We need help finding a first dance song.

Some background - my FH is a big fan of alternative/rock music. Loves good guitar stuff. I like almost everything, except country. But, I know the words to EVERY song, and even if it sounds romantic, if the words don't fit, I toss it out.

We totally agree that we want one, new song for us to signify the beginning of our new marriage, and one we both like.

I know you all are dancing to some wonderful songs. So, any suggestions??? We are going nuts trying to find one that fits. Any help you guys could give would be so so so appreciated!

Why does everyone ask this????? just curious
isn't this supposed to be a special song between bride and groom
like a first dance you had or something...not just a random song-isn't this true?

we haven't decided because we have quite a few with memorable moments

from this moment....

Its so funny you say this...My FI & I have been trying to figure out a song to dance to. We have been dating for 7.5 years and for some reason, have no 'song'....I personally do not like slow music, nor does he...I think we finally have a song and now that we have 'gone public' with it, 2 other couples are thinking about using that as there wedding song as well...Its a Sade song....

we are using, blue october 'calling you.' it fits us perfectly and its kind of a fast song. find a song that suits you, doesn't matter if its barenaked ladies ( my fav) or pearl jam. good luck.

we are using a song called 'you're my home' by billy joel. it's on the 'songs in the attic' album, and the words are phenomenal.

good luck with your hunt..we still haven't found one and we've been avidly listening..i'm sure one will pop up when you are both together and you'll know that's the one to pick..it should be special to you..

Thank you all for the suggestions! We'll listen to them all. Keep them coming.

It's funny . . . we have special songs, too, but they are not the most romantic or 'first dance at your wedding' type songs - for example, the first song we ever danced to was 'Last Dance' by Donna Summer.

We're playing it at the wedding, but not as our first dance.

So, we wanted something totally new for this new adventure - our marriage. I think it'll hit us, but we need help to find it. You all are a great help! thanks!

It took months for us to find ours and we found it accidentally. We were listening to the radio and the Lifehouse song 'Hanging By A Moment' (falling even more in love with you) came on.

We were talking about how much we liked the words but it was too fast for a wedding song. I went online that night and found out there is a slow, acoustic version and that's now our song.

So if there is a romantic but 'too rock' song you want, you can see if someone did a cover of it or if there is a slower version. I just went into Amazon.com and typed in the song name.

that's sord of our song, too, but we chose ice cream by sarah mclachlin. it's just beautiful and we loooove it.

AlexLynn....Its so funny you wrote the song 'You're my Home', because its our favorite song ever...I thought I had known every Billy Joel song but then heard this maybe two years ago...and it just fits perfectly! Good choice:)

Our song has always been 'God must've spent a little more time on you' by N'Sync.

Since we're getting married in a RC Church, it works perfectly. We have hoped since we started dating that someday we'd dance to it at our wedding.

our wedding song is Till There Was You - (the beatles version)

my FH and i both have musical backgrrounds, so we wanted something fun, cute, and 'us' we loved that song. we actually heard it on the plane on the way to Italy this past feb. and we were both listening to it. ... we looked at each other and was like 'this is perfect'!!!
