FH and I are doing it. We each lost about 10 lbs on phase 1 (we stayed on an extra week), but so far phase 2 is hard. We're not losing anything more.
Not gaining it back, but the loss has stalled.

Re: Staring a modified South Beach diet today
I am on it, and have done it before. I would say a 'modified' South Beach will be very slow going - phase one (no carbs) is when you really lose the weight. There is a major plateu that happens in phase 2 - i went almost a month with losing nothing, but then started losing again. You just have to stick with it. A plateau is natural in every diet - your body becomes accostomed to the type of eating you are doing, and it stops burning fat - or something like that - my doctor friend explained it better.
Good luck-it's really not a bad diet if you love your veggies and lean meats!

Re: Staring a modified South Beach diet today
I think it's a pretty good diet. You can eat a lot, as long as it's 'approved' food. So you never have to feel hungry. And it's not as strict as Atkins so I think it's easier to stay on. It's really just changing the way you eat, presumably forever. But the food is good, and some of the recipes are great (cauliflower 'mashed potatoes'--yum!). Everyone I know who went on it lost weight.I agree that modifying it might not work as well, though.

My Uncle did a modified South Beach / Atkins combo. The big thing was that he would have All Bran cereal in the morning. He lost over 40lbs in 6months. Very inspiring. But he is a very disciplined person and exercised several times a week.Welcome New Vendors
