Middle Island and Medford?

What are you opinions of Middle Island and Medford. Anyone live there? How do you like it? Do you feel safe there? There are some reasonably priced condos and co-ops. Usually the lower priced ones are in bad areas. So I figured I would check with my LIW gals. I live in Nassau now so I am not knowledgeable about Suffolk. Thanks for any help!

Re: Middle Island and Medford?

There is a bad section of these towns called gordon heights, it is divided among coram middle island and medford. Which complex are you specifically looking at? Lake Pointe isnt bad at all but it isnt far away from a very bad neighborhood.

Re: Middle Island and Medford?

If you are looking for condos I wouldn't be worried, usually condos have a private or locked entrance and their own security. My FH lived in a condo in Medford and it was nice. FM me if you'd like. Good Luck!

Antoinette is right you do NOT want to be anywhere near Gordon Heights. When my Mom was working for DSS she was not allowed into that area without a police escort because it was so bad! Medford it great, it has really changed around. A lot of young couples are buying houses in there and fixing them up nicely. Let me know what street the development is on and I can help you more.

I had looked in Eagle Estates in Medford and was told by a family friend that that area is not much better than Gordon Heights.

Re: Middle Island and Medford?

We looked at some condos in Medford and Middle Island. They were nice for the $, but IMO I would rather pay more not to be in that area...Middle Island is very inconvenient too--not really near any major roads. The complex in Medford, while nice, was almost entirely seniors. Take a drive and look around; you'll get a feel for the places....

Eagle estates USED to be REALLY BAD, it has done such a turn around. We went driving through there and my Mom was even shocked at the difference! Like I said so many young people are buying in the area, the renters are being forced out as well as a lot of the bad elements. I was shocked because as long as I lived in E. Patchogue with my Mom she would never let me go in that area alone, when we went up there for something we drove around for about an hour in amazement that it was so nice. She had told us not to look there and we didn't and now DH is almost sorry that we didn't you can really get a lot for your money!

My FH and I just bought a house in Middle Island. We are moving in, in the next few weeks. With any area that you look at, it is going to have its pros and cons. Btw, Middle Island is near a ton of major roads. FM me if you want more details.

Re: Middle Island and Medford?

FI lives in MI and it's not the nicest area (he lives in a Strathmore development-the development itself is nice but I would NOT recommend the area!). But there are some areas that are pretty decent. School district is not so hot (if that matters to you). The only problem, IMO, is that there are too many bad areas to avoid and it seems like those towns are surrounded by less than desirable towns. Good luck w/ your house hunting!
