I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

I really need to tan bad. I don't want to be the really white guy on the beach that scares away all the people from having skin that is white

I am fair skinned, and I normally burn and then turn white again. The only parts of my body that tan are my arms, the back of my neck, and my face...Yes its a farmers tan.

I'm not really a beach person. I dont like to sit on the beach and just baste in the sun. First of all its not good for you, and second of all I dont have the time or patience to just lay there...I have stuff to do.

My friend got a free pass for a tanning salon in rockville center, and he loves it there. He gets the biggest and best machine and he says he is starting to see a difference. He has gone 3 times, the first was free.

Should I goto a Tanning salon? I dont know if I really want to do that. I dont know what I should do....

Thanks,
Scott

Re: I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

try a self tanning lotion or one of those spray on tans at a salon. tanning beds are just as dangerous as laying out in the sun.

Re: I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

Do you recommend any Self Tanning lotions? I dont want to turn orange either. Do those lotions actually give you a real tan....What I mean is, if I go out in the sun am I going to burn because I dont have a base tan, but I am wearing tanning lotion, or will I just tan because I am wearing tanning lotion?
Thanks,
Scott

Re: I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

The tanning lotion won't protect you from the sun, so you would still burn if you didn't have on SPF. If you're concerned about burning, it might be a good idea to go to your friend's tanning salon just so you do have a base--this usually helps keep you from burning. I know that tanning salons are still dangerous, but my feeling is that it's worse for you to get a sunburn, you know? If you feel like you could put on SPF and not burn and don't care about having a real tan (just care about not being Mr. Whitey on the beach), I would recommend doing a spray on tan at a salon a few days before you leave.

Re: I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

I dont think I want to do the spray on tan. If I do go to the tanning salon then I will do the tanning bed.

Danielle and I are going to St lucia in August, and I know it is going to be crazy hot there...I really want to make sure that I dont burn like crazy...I wish it was easy for me to tan....but its not.

Re: I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

Because you are so pale, you will burn significantly in the sun. I would go to one of those places that do the spray on tans or airbrushed tans instead!!

Yeah but that wont protect me from the sun, right? I will still burn in St Lucia if I have a spray on tan.

I say go to the tanning salon like 3 x, I mean yes it is not the best thing in the world for you but 3 times is not going to do you in!

Should I go now, or should I wait a few weeks?

Re: I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

I would probably go right before your trip. Tan 2 days in a row, skip the third day
and tan the fourth day. They have beds that bronze you not burn you. Plus when you
go out in the sun you will not burn as easily if you hav base color from the salon. I mean
if you want to go now you can, but you probably will have to go many times to maintain a
tan before your honeymoon.

So why don't you use sunscreen on vacation?
You'll have your artificial base, but you won't burn.

So the beds in the tanning salon wont burn you? They only give you a bronzing color?

Re: I need a Tan - 6 weeks till HoneyMoon

I got a little burned from going on a bed where my skin was a little sensitive to the touch for a few days. I still got red when I was in Florida and I still peeled. So other then not reflecting light off my extremely pale legs the way my skin reacts to sun did not change (I burn easily and rarely tan).

They have a special bed called a bronzer bed, that the claim wont burn you. I dont know from personal experience because I use the regular beds- but I rarely burn.
