Need inexpensive ceremony music
Any suggestions for reasonable ceremony musicians? We are open to most any instruments: flute, guitar, violin, harp, etc. We ended up spending a little more than our budget on a jazz trio for the cocktail hour & a 7-piece band for the ceremony, so we were hoping to find an inexpensive option for the ceremony. We haven't done that much research, but my fi got pricing info from Stan Wiest, and I thought he was really high. Any help is much appreciated!!
I'm meeting with my DJ tonight and I was wondering how many songs I can actually request? Upon my initial meeting they seemed to discourage giving an actual list of songs. They said just to give the type of music you want and list some favorite artists and songs. Just wondering how many is too many because my fiance is very particular about his music :)

Go to the local High School in your area and speak to the music teacher. He/She could maybe recommend 3 or 4 of their best students and they would be happy to get paid for there playing.

Can't you get the Jazz Trio to do the ceremony music too for w few extra bucks?

Unfortunately, the jazz trio is pretty modern & does not specialize in ceremony music. They do not really do the classical thing, and that is what we want for the ceremony.
The HS idea is interesting - I just may try that.

If you're weary about getting high school kids...you can try the local colleges like Five Towns and SUNY-Stonybrook. I was a music major and you would be AMAZED at some of the talent at these colleges. I would check out pricing for both. You may find that the college students are about the same price and the difference in the performance level is huge. It's amazing what a couple of years of college can do for you!
Thank everyone
high school/college
students is what we did. Although college students may be more polished- they also sign up for performances/fairs/teaching trips...so they may not be avaiable for your wedding ( depending on when it is). That is what happened with us. I spent about 10 days straight trying to track people down, leaving mesages, etc.
We went with High School students. It was handled by their music teacher. We picked the classical pieces we wanted. They were reliable and also much less costly than Stan Wiest. (but after all, he is a pro!)
