My favorite NYC restaurant is the '21' Club. '21' Club
Sooo good, and I usually see someone famous when I am there!

What kind of food do you want? What area? Near the Plaza? Are you taking him to Nickel- do you want to go near there?

Re: really good NYC restaurant

Are you looking to spend big bucks? If so, here are some great places (I haven't been to many of them..but I know of them because my boss frequents them)

Le Bernardin
Jean Georges
Oceana
Aquavit
Union Pacific (Rocco DiSpirito's other place)
AcquaGrill

I could go on and on!

If you want a particular cuisine, I can narrow it down for you

I second Vong ! I am dying to go to VONG, I hear excellent things about it. Might be hard to get reservations, though .. (same owners as Jean Georges, b/t/w)

You do know your stuff, maiahsdad.. (my father was a chef for years in NYC before he retired, so I know how tough the business is )

Re: really good NYC restaurant

I also love Fifty Seven Fifty Seven in the Four Seasons Hotel. We went there for our year anniversary...5757
The '21' Club is my total favorite though--the food is definitely the best I have ever had, and we took clients out all the time when I was working in the city.

Re: really good NYC restaurant

Daniel is not far from the Plaza, neither is the Four Seasons (where FH proposed). There are some new fancy restaurants in the Times Warner Center- but I haven't been there. Cafe Des Artists and Cafe Botanica are both wonderful restaurants in the area.

Re: really good NYC restaurant

I am also dying to go to Alain Ducasse (at the Essex House). I'm thinking of taking FH there for his 30th bday. It's supposedly the best restaurant in manhattan.

Re: really good NYC restaurant

You cannot do wrong with any of the places listed above .. all great suggestions!

but might i suggest that you start calling around to check for availability/reservations? I only say this because I was having some trouble booking a place for my boss during a weeknight in a few weeks. The popular, top rated places are hard to get into (esp on a weekend)

Good luck! Your FH is lucky to have such a generous FW!

Re: really good NYC restaurant

Or Grammercy Tavern.. another new hot spot is Spice.

Then there are all of Mario Batali's restaurants.

Lupa, Esca, Babbo....

Bobby Flay's restaurants: Mesa Grill or Bolo

Michael Romano's Union Square Cafe

Re: really good NYC restaurant

I highly recommend Gascogne.. It's on 8th Avenue between 17 and 18th Street. It's a really small place.. and so much like France.

It's dark.. intimate and romantic.. Candles on every table. If it's nice weather, you can sit outside in the garden. I took the FW here on our scond date and we went back on our 2 year anniversary. The food is mind-blowing.

It's even affordable too. The waiters and waitresses treat you like gold. They answer every question you might have.

We love Gascogne!
