Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

Since it was June... as is Lylas. We had it in our back yard with a BBQ. There were about 25 people in the house and on the new deck that I MADE FH build just for her. We had a blast. Since she wasnt going to remember why have it someplace special like Chuck E Cheese, basically we saved some $$ for all the other birthdays by having it here.

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

For Jords 1st bday We had 50 friends and family at my Moms house (I couldn't fit theat many people in our house) over for lunch and cake, I had a clown come and she played games and songs with the kids - they had a really good time. For his 2nd birthday he had a fire truck come to the house with the fireman and they talked to the kids and they got to ride the truck. This year we are having it at Chuck E. Cheese - actually next weekend!

1st birthdays are hard - usually they get overwhelmed by the whole thing!

good luck!

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

We had Lukes first bday at home and it felt so chaotic. I dont know if it was just too many people for our house or that I felt stressed trying to play hostess and still get the pics I wanted and all. I felt like I was bossing my DH around all day. His bday is October but thank God it was warm, the kids were able to go outside. We had Elmo come which was quite cute. Lukie knew Elmo but I know he'd appreciate it even more now that he's a few months older. Are you going to have mainly adults or will there be alot of kids? Also, what are the ages of the kids? If they are older than Lyla, a gymnastics place might be fun. I just got an invite for Luke to a place called Progressive Gymnastics in Flushing. There's also a place called Playrobics on Bell Blvd in Bayside. I have no idea what it costs but I'm thinking of something like this for his bday this year. HTH

We had his 1st b-day at a restaraunt.

But his second was a BB-Q in the yard. I bought a pool for the kids! They had a blast.

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

My close friends (who live here, but grew up elsewhere) ALWAYS make fun that LI kids have parties at halls. So I tease them and say Molly's 1st b-day will be at The Plaza , but in reality it will most likely be held in my home with family and a few close friends. But I will hire waitresses to serve and clean up. Like Liz said it is a lot of people and a lot of work!

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

I think we will do Joseph's at home too. We are hoping it will be a nice day so people can go out on the deck. I haven't thought about hiring someone to help but that might be a good idea. We will probably get food from Cravings or something like that. And we have no idea yet how many people it will be but most likely just family and friends with children.

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

We're having Sean's at the Queens County Farm Museum - in the Pavilion. It's $250 for 4 hours. The children get to feed the goats, take a tour of the farm and each of the guests get a tractor ride. I found an awesome 'Barnyard Celebration' pattern for all of my decorations, balloons, goody bags, etc. and we're getting either a cow, pig or duck pinata. We're so excited!!

We expect about 60 - 65 people and I just don't want to deal with that many at my house. Plus, I'd have to rent chairs and tables as well as hire an 'entertainer', so it would cost me the same $$$.

On his actual birthday, which is a Wednesday, we're having immediate family (20 - 25 ppl) over for a BBQ... I got the cutest '1st Birthday Boy' decorations for that!

I know we've got 4 months to go, but, I LOVE planning parties!!!!!

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

If you can fit the guests into your house, I think something at home is nice. Especially if you get someone to come in and help cook and/or clean.

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

We had Maiah's first birthday at a restaurant/brewpub. It's actually where FH and I first met working together. It was perfect since 95% of the guests were adults, they could order beer or liquor. And the best part was that we didn't have to worry about cleaning up afterward!!

Camille:

Sean's a week older than Mia so his party is in July, too! The people at the farm have been great to deal with! They suggest you book 2 months in advance and require a $150 non-refundable deposit for the pavilion. We booked already!

Here's the website:

Good luck!!

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

Kathi and Camille, I think that's a great idea. I might even look into it myself for June!

My ideal party for her would be a backyard BBQ, and to just keep it simple with about 30 guests. However we live in an apt. Our families houses won't work either. Anyone have a house that they want to rent out ?

I don't want to do it in a restaurant this time.

Re: Where will/did you have baby's 1st BDAY???

Niha -

They have another option for $150 - up to 45 people, I think (the pavilion is for 85 ppl max).

Edited 'cuz I can't post a pic!!
