Very disturbing. Found 2 rifles underneath the cushions of the couch in the teachers lounge.(I really am afraid to go to work today)

We found one first and we called the office to notify them and after 10 minutes no one showed up...we went down and the secretary didn't even notify the principal. So we went outside (it was recess time) to notify him. When he came up he picked up the rifle and examined it..told us it was fake (he thought it was funny) He left with the rifle and we were kinda freaked out and ended up looking under the other couch...when we saw another rifle...we screamed so loud. We called back the principal and he just took the rifle and left as if he always finds rifles under the cushions of the couch. I am really freaked out. He took the rifles to the super. but shouldn't the cops be called in? The entire day went on and no cops came and he was in a chipper mood not thinking anything of it. We had our faculty meeting today and that was not even the first thing that he discussed with us. He really upset me by being so casual about this.

Has this man been watching the news or reading the papers? All this new evidence is surfacing with the Columbine shootings and how all these bizarre things were happening, but no one reported it. Better to be safe than sorry! Maybe you can make an anynomous call.

He owes you an explaniation of what he is doing about this find. Ask him for one. If he is doing nothing then let him you know that you have plans to notify x or whatever you feel is the right thing to do.

Cops absolutely should have been called. It is possible that the central office called and the police came there and will be at the school after school time so not to disturb or worry the kids.

We just came back from our faculty meeting...the principal did not have the cops come to the school. He really didn't make a big deal. Central office does know but other than that ...nothing is being done.

I'd talk to the principal again and say that you are concerned with his attitude toward the rifles and that you'd feel better about the incident if he could tell you if he knew for sure if they were fake or not.

If he blows you off of you're not comfortable with his reply, call the authorities.

That is VERY scary!

OMG... That is SO unbelievable- what is this world coming to? Your principal should absolutely take action!

I remember when we would have bomb threats in school where they would get the dogs in. We would be outside for 2 hours at least. It winded up being either cherry bombs or someone who made a 'fake'. But it was still taken seriously.

The cops should definitely be involved. Is the principal usually this casual about serious problems? I'm sorry you're dealing with this... very scary!

Since the principal is being sooo casual about it, my first guess is that the rifles belong to HIM! And, he's not making a big deal of it, b/c it will get him into a $hitload of trouble!

I can't believe that... that is absolutely horrible... isn't it still a threat even if they are fake?
