If you missed American Idol last night, Click here
This was taken from fans of reality website. Someone has too much time on their hands:Well, this is it. We've gotten to the last stages of the Hollywood auditions. By the end of tonight's show, we will know who the 32 semifinalists are. Beginning next week, we will be casting our votes for the next American Idol Before we can get to that point, though, our judges have to cut 65 more people from the competition. Moreover, to do that, they (and we) have to get through the small group performances and a final round of individual ones as well.
It's 8:00am on the third day of the Hollywood auditions. The remaining contestants arrive at the theater (in limousines, even!), and we're reminded that in this group is the first set of siblings to make it this far, Jesus and Noel Roman (I think the twin sisters from last season's Atlanta auditions were better than the Roman brothers, but that's just me.). Ryan reminds us that the first order of business today is to make it through the small group auditions, and, before our contestants start the performances, we see Simon giving them some very important advice: 'Don't forget the words'. Oh, if he only knew what was to come…
It looks like the guy groups are going to be the first ones to perform. Our first group of guys to sing is the Hawaiian trio of Sonny Kapu, Clifford Iokia, and Jonah Moananu. The guys do a very nice (almost 'doo wop'-like) rendition of James Taylor's 'Up On The Roof', and it is a nice way to start the day's events. The judges seem to think so, as well. Well, most of them do, anyway. Randy nods and says, 'It was aight'. Paula calls the performance 'a great way to start things off'. Simon, being the well of praise that he is, calls the performance 'just reasonable'. Hey, Simon, at least they weren't all in flowered shirts and singing 'Tiny Bubbles'…
Next up are the self-named 'Bleach Boys', John Preator (who reminds me of Art Garfunkel), Matthew Metzger (who looks strangely like Luke Perry to me), and Michael Keown (who does not really remind me of anyone but apparently has an ego the size of Texas). It seems that being one of Simon's early favorites has definitely gone to Michael's head. In a pre-taped confessional, he says, 'If I don't win this, I definitely see myself making the top three.' We also see him earlier in these auditions saying, '…'Michael Keown'…Doesn't that sound good? It sounds good, it looks good…I think it works.' The guys take the stage to sing 'Up On The Roof' as well. Michael is the first to have a solo, and, wouldn't you know it…he forgets the words! I have to say I take a little bit of pleasure in that. John and Matthew remember their lines, but I think the performance is rather uninspiring as a whole. The judges think it is even worse than that. Randy calls it 'really terrible' and says it was 'like a bad 'Love Boat' performance.' Paula is a little kinder and says simply that it 'wasn't great'. Simon, of course, pulls no punches and says the guys were 'absolutely ghastly'. Matthew and John look like they are ready to leave the stage, but Michael has to get his two cents in and says that he should not be judged on this performance alone, seeing as how he's had so many good ones prior to this. You are right, Michael. One bad performance should not necessarily make or break you. However, it certainly does not help, and neither does talking back to the judges and acting like a diva when you haven't even made it to the semifinals yet.
It's like Simon's words of advice come back to haunt the guys, because we next see a montage of groups where the guys forget their words and try to mumble their way through their performances. Bao Viet Nguyen forgets some of his words. Eric Yoder does the same thing during his performance. Even Alan Ritchson succumbs to temporary amnesia (What's this? Alan is not perfect? Say it ain't so!). Finally, we see that even Noel Roman has trouble during his group's performance. We talk to Noel's brother Jesus (who has yet to perform), and he says, 'Noel let me down'.
Well, it is up to Jesus Roman to restore the family honor, and his group—which also includes George Huff and Matt Rogers—takes the stage. What happens? Yep, you guessed it…Jesus forget the words during his solo, too. Oh well…so much for family honor, I suppose. When the group is done, Randy (who called the performance 'definitely entertaining') asks Jesus what happened. He goes into this speech about how he was up all night practicing while George and Matt went to sleep. Well, that is true. But, what is also true is that he is the only one who forgot the words during his solo. Matt and George did just fine.
Before going to our first commercial break, we see some more guys forgetting the words to their songs, including John Stevens IV. Poor guy. He started so well in his local audition, and he has such a mature, smooth voice (remember, this guy is only 16 years old). However, ever since he got to Hollywood, he has had one misstep after another. I really hope he can redeem himself. I would like to see him make it to the semifinals.
We come back from the break, and it is time to hear from the girls. First up are Leah Vladowski, Elizabeth LeTendre, and Dina Lopez. Leah's mom (who, apparently, was a pop star in the 70's back in Bulgaria) has been giving the girls some extra coaching and advice. It definitely shows, as this trio does an excellent rendition of 'Young Hearts Run Free'. It is so good, in fact, that Randy and Paula give it a standing ovation (Simon stays in his seat, of course. I mean, when have we ever seen Simon give anyone a standing ovation?). Randy says, 'Now, that's the way you do it.' Paula can only manage to blurt out, 'Amen! Amen! Amen!' Finally, Simon says, 'I can see a Top 12 of only girls, and I really don't care if we have any guys in the Top 12.' Cut to Michael Keown who looks stunned to hear Simon say this. Heh heh heh…
Up next are Cortni, Janene, and Meleana singing 'You Can't Hurry Love'. Now for some reason that we never find out, Meleana had been avoiding the other two up until the performance. The lack of practice shows, as Meleana forget the words during her solo, and the group turns in an abysmal performance.
Up next are the 'Ghetto Fab Four' of Nicole Tieri, Sara Logan, Amy Adams, and Lana Phillips. They sing 'Tell Him', and all of them are good. Well, all of them except for Lana, that is. She also forgets the words during her solo and tries (unsuccessfully) to improvise her way out of it. Randy says that, out of the group, Nicole was the best because 'the song fit her the best'. Paula addressed Lana, saying, 'You just had a brain fart, didn't you?' Simon says, 'One of you lost your way, two of you sounded like lounge singers, and one of you was in a class all by yourself. That was Sara. I think it was one of your best performances.'
The girls are not immune to forgetting the words, as we see in the next montage. The condition hits Cassie LaBeau, but she is another one who has seemed to have nothing but bad luck since she got here. Jasmine Arteaga also had trouble with lyrics during her solo in her group performance. Even strong performers such as Fantasia Barrino and Jennifer Hudson could not escape the clutches of 'lyric amnesia'.
We come back from another commercial break, and it is time for the next set of cuts. After this, the group of 87 will be reduced down to 57. In a scene straight out of 'A Chorus Line', the contestants are brought up on stage in groups of 8-10 or so, and then certain people within the group are asked to step forward. Now, sometimes the back row is sent home, and sometimes the front row gets the bad news. Among the people who are sent home at this stage are Draeh Hancock, Bao Viet Nguyen, Jasmine Arteaga, and (*gasp*) Michael Keown! When Michael learns he will not be moving on, he gets defensive (now there is a surprise). He tells Simon, 'You said I had a good voice. You said I gave one of the best performances of one of your favorite songs that you have ever heard.' Simon's reply is curt, 'You did, and it got you this far.' Snap, snap, snap! Now get off the stage, Michael. Michael does leave, but not before promising, 'You will definitely see me next year.' Oh, goody. I cannot wait. Among the ones who get through are Elizabeth LeTendre, Matt Rogers, Briana Garcia, Nicole Tieri, John Peter Lewis, Lisa Wilson, and Alan Ritchson. Lisa and Alan survive another cut? How in the hell do they keep doing that?
We return from another commercial break, and it is the final day of the Hollywood auditions. It's all come down to this. The remaining contestants will have one more chance to impress the judges with solo performances this morning. In order to be fair, the contestants draw numbers out of a hat to determine the singing order for the day. Who gets to be first? Why it's the 'Human Beat Box' himself, Jonah Moananu. It is always tough being the first one, and that shows in Jonah's performance. I have to agree with Randy when he says, 'That was not your best'. Paula says she could tell Jonah was 'a little nervous'. Simon says, 'That was the worst from you so far.'
We see a brief snippet of Sarah Silva singing the Faith Hill hit 'There You'll Be' (Paula calls the performance 'just really good'), and then it is time to hear from Leah Vladowski. She sings the Diana Ross hit 'Do You Know Where You're Going To?', and, when she is done, Randy tells her, 'You have a very nice voice'. Paula says, 'I just love your voice'. What does Simon think? Well, he tells Leah, 'You should be glad you have Randy and Paula up here, because I don't like your voice.'
Nicole 'Scootergirl' Tieri is next, and she sings the song 'I Will Love Again'. I think she does a fine job, and Randy agrees, telling Nicole that she has been 'very consistent' and that she can 'definitely sing'. Paula tells her, 'Your voice is star quality'. Being the ray of sunshine that he is, Simon calls Nicole's performance 'boring'. Nicole leaves the stage confused, saying that she does not understand how one minute the judges say she is too silly and the next they say she is too serious. She leaves, off to search for that happy medium.
We next hear from Erskine Walcott, who sings the Stevie Wonder hit 'Lately'. I do not remember Erskine from earlier in the competition, but I am very impressed by his voice. It seems the judges are, too. Randy says, 'Good job…you did your thing, dude. You did your thing.' Paula says, 'Erskine…you just make me smile.' Oh, whatever, Paula. Simon tells Erskine, 'Well done', and Erskine leaves the stage to a thunderous round of applause.
After hearing Amy Adams singing 'The Power Of Love' (a performance that Randy calls 'excellent'), Simon decides to play Mr. Blackwell for a moment. He tells Cassie LaBeau, 'Your image is horrendous', and I have to agree. I do not know what look Cassie was trying to go for, but whatever it was, it failed miserably. Jennifer Hudson, adorned in a silver jumpsuit with ties at the ankles, wrists, and hips, looks like she is auditioning to be on the next NASA lunar mission. Simon, on the other hand, says, 'You look like something a turkey should be wrapped in.' Jennifer feigns shock and moves from behind the microphone to the front of the stage, where she does a great little sashay and turn as if she is Tyra Banks walking down a Paris catwalk. You GO, girl! Jennifer is not upset, though, as she returns to the microphone with a big smile on her face.
Before the judges go off to deliberate, the whole group is called back up on stage. Uh oh…Simon wants to talk to them. What criticism is he going to hand out now? Surprisingly, Simon actually pays them a compliment. He calls the previous day 'one of the worst ever' but says, 'Today, you've raised the game.' With that, the judges are off to deliberate and narrow the field down to the final 32 contestants.
We come back from another commercial break, and the moment has arrived. The remaining contestants have been divided into three separate rooms, and Ryan tells us that two of the rooms will move on, and the third will not. Among the people in Room 1 are Matt Rogers, Jonah Moananu, John Stevens IV, Matthew 'Bleach Boy' Metzger, Elizabeth LeTendre, Lisa Wilson, John Peter 'Pen Salesman' Lewis, both of the Roman brothers, and Katie Webber. I do not know what to think about this group. It has a lot of good people in it. However, it also has John Stevens IV and Lisa Wilson in it. John should move on but has had a couple of not-too-good performances in Hollywood. Lisa has not seemed to give two hoots about the competition but somehow keeps getting through. All bets are off on this group for me. The judges enter, and it is up to Simon to deliver the news. He was the bearer of bad news last night. Will history repeat itself here? Simon gives a little speech and then tells the group that…they are through to the semifinals! The group goes wild, and we hear some of the girls launch into an encore of 'Young Hearts Run Free.' I am surprised Jonah, John, Matthew, and the Roman brothers get through, and I am thrilled for Matt, Elizabeth, and Katie. As for Lisa…well, I guess we are stuck with her for another couple of weeks.
Among the people in Room 2 are George Huff, Sarah Silva, Alan Ritchson, and Nicole Tieri. Again, I am not sure what to think. All of these guys got mixed reviews from the judges at one point or another, so it could go either way. Of course, Lisa Wilson just got through, so it must mean that Alan will as well. That's it. This is the other room that will be advancing. The judges come in, and it is Randy's turn to deliver the news. He gives his little speech and then says that this group…will not be moving on. This room has been cut. I am sorry to see George, Sarah, and Nicole go, and I wonder what Lisa will think when she learns that Alan has not advanced. Like I really care…
Anyway, it is on to Room 3. We, of course, already know this group's fate, but they are still on pins and needles. Among the people in this room are Eric Yoder, Amy Adams, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino, and Briana Garcia. The judges enter, and it is time to hear from Paula. She does not waste much time and tells this group that…they are through to the semifinals! There is lots of screaming and jumping up and down, and tears are flowing all over the place.
Well, the judges' work is done. It is now up to us, the viewers, to decide who moves on and who heads home. The semifinals start next week, and it will be our turn to cast our votes for our favorites. From here on out, the fate of the remaining 32 contestants is in our hands. Who will be the first ones to make it through to the finals? Find out next week!

Even if I had THAT much time on my free hands, I wouldn't write that much detail! I got about halfway through and stopped (mostly b/c I had seen the show last night..)Speaking of the show .. My FH was upset about 'ScooterGirl' being cut .. he thought she had a great voice. She was good, just had an image problem, I think..
