Hawaii Honeymooners!! Those that Stayed on the Big Island

Hey Girls I need your help!

I have gotten the biggest headache researching but this question can only be answered by someone who has been to hawaii.

I'm trying to decide which airport to fly into for the big island, KONA or HILO

If I fly into KONA, it is approx 2.5 hours to the Volcanoe national park. Are other activities centered around Kona or more around Hilo?

Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!!

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners!!

We are staying for a total of 16 days. Doing Oahu, and Maui and a Norwegian cruise in between. There is a Hawaii thread. Alot of people posted information on what to do and so forth. Do a search and it should pop up.

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners!!

We're going for 11 nights- 6 in Maui at the Hyatt, 4 in Kauai at the Hyatt, 1 in Ohau at the Sheraton Wakiki. We didn't have a problem with the interisland flights- I booked them directly through the airline when I made my airline reservations. Actually, I did the air on my own and used a travel agent for everything else. My recommendation for inter-island air- take early flights so you aren't wasting a day and try to find direct flights without having to go through Honolulu. They are really short (45 minutes or so).

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners!!

We are staying a total of 13 days. 7 on Maui at the Sheraton (supposed to be the best beach on Maui) and 6 days on the Big Island at the Hilo Hawaiian. If you are interested, buy the Maui Revealed travel books they are very honest and extremly helpful in making decisions. (They also have a promotion code that can get you great discounts on hotel and cars and other stuff.)

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners!! Those that Stayed on the Big Island

We flew to the Big Island from Honlulu. We flew INTO Hilo so we could spend the day at the Volcano National Park then drove to Kona where were stayed for 2 days at the Hilton Waikola Village. Then we flew OUT of Kona. It worked out really well this way. This way we only have to do the drive from Hilo one way instead of round trip. I would recommend that if you could do it this way, to do it.

That is great..I wish we did that. We flew into Kona and stayed 3 nights at the Four Seasons. Since it is a 2 hour drive..we wasted 4 hours driving. I should have done what you did!

wow thanks for the tip.
We plan on staying 3 days at the 4 Seasons as well, so I'm going to look into doing Hilo first.
