both, kind of. We're using 'Its a Wonderful World' - Louis Armstrong

I'm using 'Because You Loved Me' Celine Dion. My father has always been so much more to me than just a parent...(tears!!)...
BUT...I'm doing two parent songs each. One to my father from me and one to me from my father. The same goes for my fiance and his mother.(she loves it!)

Re: father daughter dance -- are the words of the song coming from you to your dad or your dad to you

I wanted the song to reflect myself talking to my dad - i did a ton of looking to come up with this song, and chose it only for the words. As it turns out though, he wasn't listening to the words at all, and maybe it would have been better to ask my mom what a favorite old slow song of his was, and to use that. In the parent album, I printed out the words to the song though, and mounted them on the page opposite the pic of us dancing, so that he could finally see what the song was.
DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL – Kippi Brannon

Walking down the aisle today
My eyes on Mr. Right
My bouqet was shaking
But Daddy held on tight
Taking those last steps, Daddy and me
From the child to the woman I'd be
With a diamond on my finger
And my mama's string of pearls
He gave me away 'cause I couldn't stay
Daddy's little girl

Well, he taught me so much
From seven to thirteen
Taught me to drive when I was a wild thing
He reached and he prayed when I made some mistakes
That I wouldn't have made if I'd've done it his way

Now he hugs me when he sees me
We talk about the past
He tries to give me money
And I try to give it back
He's a book of advice
More than I need
The look in his eyes
As he's saying to me
Let me help you all I can
While I'm still in this world
(what will you do when your
daddy's gone and your) _I had the DJ edit this line out of the song though_

You’re Daddy's little girl

I think we're going to use 'Isn't She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder, so I gues from Dad to me.

Re: father daughter dance -- are the words of the song coming from you to your dad or your dad to you

I gave my dad a disc of about 8 songs that I thought would be nice and told him I wanted him to pick what song we danced to. I told him he could pick anything, I didn't have to be on the disc I gave him. In the end, he picked A Song for my daughter (I think that was the name) and the words are from him to me. I love the song and so did he.

Re: father daughter dance -- are the words of the song coming from you to your dad or your dad to you

According to this site
http://www.imadj.com/w_your_event/wedding/traditions.shtml
it's from your dad to you...

PARENT'S DANCES PROTOCOL
The Bride leaves her father's home, her father bids her farewell, and the song is supposed to be lyrically from DAD to DAUGHTER, therefore he would make the song title selection. As traditions have all but vanished, it's not uncommon nor politically incorrect for the daughter to dedicate a song to Dad. The Groom leaves his Mother's home, he bids her farewell, and the song is supposed to be lyrically from SON to MOTHER, therefore the Groom would make the song title selection. Again, it's not uncommon nor politically incorrect for the mother to dedicate a song to her son.
