Hey, question... the reception is in Mt. Sinai were I live...and my fiance lives in Deer Park. Half of the wedding lives in Deer Park and the other half lives by me in Miller Place. B/C I never recieved my sacarments the church by me won't allow me to get married there, but the church my fiance goes to will allow us to get married there...but is 45 mins to far apart if the church ends at 430 pm and the reception begins at 730 pm? Any suggestions? Thanks brides - to - be

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

I have a 40 minute drive too! Our wedding begins at 3 (a full mass) then the reception begins at 7. We arent doing anything. We figure that some people wont come to the church (that always happens) and those that do may come to the church not fully prepared for teh reception so they will go home to get dressed and whatnot!
But if you want to do somehting, I went to a wedding and included in the invite was a not saying that the FIL was hosting coffee and cookies at his house inbetween for anyone who wanted something to do between. I didnt go but I think it worked well.

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

We have about a 40 minute ride from church to reception, but we're starting the reception an hour after the end of mass. We have alot of people from out of town and we don't want them to be inconvenienced.

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

I have about a half hour drive from church to reception site. We are having lots of out-of-towners (fiance is English and we have lots of guests from UK) we are providing a bus from hotel to church to reception and back to hotel for those people. Our ceremony (no mass) is at 3. Cocktail hour starts at 5. We figure by the time the ceremony is over and there's the receiving line and pictures it will be just after 4pm anyway. Then everyone will head to the winery. It should work out okay.

BTW...where is your reception site? I've lived in Miller Place all of my life and I've never heard of it!

Good luck!

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

I should have added that I have thought about the OOT guests. Our hotel will be by the reception hall so I figure they will just head back there, they can relax, rest, check in, get a drink, etc and then we are providing a shuttle from the hotel to the hall and back so they wont have to worry.
Personnally I have been an OOT guest to weddings with a large time gap and I never felt inconvienced I mean seriously the Bride and Groom are already inviting them to a $30,000 party what more can one ask for!
JMO though! I might feel differntly if I had out of Country guests as well!

Just remember you cant make everyone happy, it will never happen!

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

My ceremony starts at 3 and the cocktail hour starts at 6. My reception is at a hotel so I figure people will either go back to their rooms, hang out with family members and friends they haven't seen in a while or hang out at the bar. I am glad for the gap in time because I want to try to make the cocktail hour and hopefully our pictures will be over by then.

Does your reception start at 7:30 or your cocktail hour?

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

I think it is very common. I live in Manhattan. My church is in Manhattan at 2:00 and my reception hall is about 50 minutes from the city. Reception begins at 6:30.. I think the time is fine.. i am not having a mass, however I am getting married on a friday and i wanted to allot some more time for Long Island traffic, just in case.

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

I have the same problem. Our church is Malverne at 3:30 and our cocktail hour starts at 7:00 on a Friday. We have a lot of out of town guests but our hotel is close to our reception hall so we also figured that our guests can go to the church and then go back to the hotel and get ready for the PARTY!!!
We are going to take a zillion pictures in between because that's what we want

Re: Reception and Hall 45 mins apart...Suggestions?

We have a 40 minute drive from the ceremony to the reception. Wedding is at 3, ceremony only, reception starts at 6:30. We live around the corner from the church and we are opening our apartment to those that come to the church and have nothing to do in between. We are going to give my aunt a key and just have her lock up after.
